An Event Apart: For People Who Make Websites
September 05, 2005

Lightning Strikes

The AEA team is pleased to announce that Philadelphia’s hallowed Franklin Institute will host the inaugural Event Apart on Monday, December 5th, 2005. For more details regarding the time and location, please see the Events page.

In the stately surroundings of The Franklin Institute, one of Philadelphia’s oldest and most esteemed science museums, we’ll explore the science (and art) of designing with web standards. Clean, modern, comfortable, and WIFI-powered, the Institute’s Fifth Floor Conference Center provides an ideal setting for a day of intensive learning. Its adjoining rooftop deck offers striking views of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, the Museum District, and the Philadelphia skyline.

Inside the Institute, you’ll spend an entire day with Eric Meyer and Jeffrey Zeldman. You’ll have the chance to get their perspective on standards-oriented design, to pose your toughest questions and web design challenges, and to find out how they’ve met their own design challenges.

As if that weren’t enough, graphic designer Jason Santa Maria will join Eric and Jeffrey in Philadelphia for a behind-the-scenes look at the A List Apart redesign and other projects. One of Philadelphia’s own, Jason has been recognized for designing stylistic and imaginative web interfaces that maintain a balance of usability and effective content presentation. His work has won dozens of awards, including seven Addys in 2004. You can read more about him in the Speakers area of the AEA site.

Advance registration for this all-day intensive seminar is only $549. That’s already an amazing price for what you’ll be getting, but if you’re the early-bird type and register before October 31st, 2005, you’ll pay just $499—a savings of $50. You can sign up yourself or a small group at the AEA Registration page; if you’re interested in bringing a group of 10 or more, get in touch via the Contact page and the AEA team will get you hooked up.
